ABSTRACT

The aim of Chapter 3 is to provide readers with an overview of the skills and dispositions of strong canine-assisted intervention (CAI) teams. It is argued in this chapter that CAI organizations must make their training and assessment criteria public as a way of supporting prospective CAI teams. The characteristics of strong CAI organizations are identified, and a series of guidelines to inform the running of a CAI is offered. Building on the credentialing model introduced in Chapter 1, readers are provided in-depth information around how to screen prospective CAI teams, including an overview of key information to request from handlers as a means of identifying teams well suited to CAI work.
