ABSTRACT
Heroin, a-devised preparation, is entitled to its place as a sedative. It is rather unfortunate that it is controlled by patent and copyright; but, notwithstanding this, its beneficial therapeutic effects place it on the list to stay. The two most common salts are the hydrochloride and acetate. All alkalies and alkaline mixtures will precipitate heroin from solution. Crisis came one day ahead of time, and when it did come heroin had done its work, and the patient needed its action no longer. This series of cases shows that, while good results may be obtained in combination, it is far wiser to use heroin uncombined and as indicated. In the mixture it is often desirable to continue the antimony and liquor ammonii acetatis, but not the heroin.
