ABSTRACT

The process of conceptual modelling was chosen as the most appropriate and effective approach to help understand the contexts for the Turkish shipping industry using a qualitative approach to this research issue rather than traditional quantitative methods. Conceptual models are developed by revealing both the data needed to conduct the research and by analysing the research processes required. The conceptual model is developed below to give an explanation and provide the database for a qualitative approach towards the initial analysis of the Turkish shipping industry and to form the basis for understanding the Turkish shipping industry and related policy developments. The conceptual contexts used to provide a framework for the contextual model of Turkish shipping are sub divided into spatial, political and historical, economic, social, technological, organisational and managerial, legal, marketing, logistical and environmental sections, and have been derived from the contextual sub-models developed previously for Eastern European shipping.
