ABSTRACT

During my research, I encountered four types of renewable energy enterprise (REE) in emerging markets: (I) Consultants, (II) Innovators, (III) Distributors and (IV) Integrators (Gabriel and Kirkwood, 2016). In this chapter, I provide much needed detail and characterisation of these four types. I grouped the four types according to specific business model features, their location along the supply chains for renewable energy sources (RESs) and renewable energy technologies (RETs). Using this business model lens, I contribute a characterisation of REEs to provide context and foundation for further analysis of these enterprises in emerging markets.
