ABSTRACT

Logistical considerations associated with the supply chains for renewable energy product were ranked as the most significant challenge faced by renewable energy enterprises (REEs) aiming to distribute renewable energy technology (RET) products in emerging markets. The logistical challenges are those factors - institutional, procedural, geographical, socio-cultural and financial - that hinder the smooth transition of RET products from one stage of the supply chain to another. In this chapter, I “let the data speak for itself” (Easterby-Smith, Thorpe and Jackson, 2012: 163). That is, I will introduce the broad supply chain categories of the logistical challenges the REEs face, and I then provide quotes from the interviews - examples of the exact words spoken by the REEs when describing each challenge. I selected quotes that illustrate each challenge clearly and that speak directly to the specific problems at hand at each stage of the supply chain.
