ABSTRACT

Because of its importance in contemporary college education in Chinese societies, creativity is vital for investigation in college students there. Of particular concern are the determinants and consequences of creativity at both personal and contextual or aggregate levels. The concern addresses the deontological and consequentialist bases of creativity as a valuable disposition. These bases involve other dispositions including personality traits, strengths such as gratitude and dialecticism, humor styles, and values and feelings about well-being. The bases are plausible in light of the analytic-functionalist framework, which comprise voluntaristic and deterministic mechanisms to fulfill the requisite functions of goal attainment, adaptation, integration, and latency. This framework pervades the analysis of relationships between creativity and the aforementioned factors, as well as regional and sociodemographic factors.
