ABSTRACT

Central to effective program evaluation work is the development of clear and appropriate evaluation questions. These questions signal the information needs of those interested in the evaluation, provide direction for the evaluation, and provide boundaries for the evaluation work. Evaluation questions are also a key point in the program evaluation to involve stakeholders in the evaluation process. For school counselors, there are many school and district stakeholders, as well as community stakeholders outside the school and district. All have legitimate needs and concerns regarding the school counseling program. Including these stakeholders in the development of evaluation questions will help to ensure that their information needs are being met through the evaluation. This will also increase the credibility of the evaluation among stakeholders. In turn, the evaluation will more likely be acted on, the main goal of any evaluation. This chapter will provide sample evaluation questions and strategies for organizing and working with stakeholders to develop clear and appropriate evaluation questions for the evaluation of your school counseling program.
