ABSTRACT

As crises emerge, the type of crisis not only provides an organization with information about the situational risks but also potential stakeholder reactions to the situation and the organization. As such, having a deep understanding of crisis types will help organizations to develop better crisis response strategies. The chapter begins by introducing a framework for categorizing crises based on blame and severity, and then introduces the four types of crises: Transgressions, events, reputational, and disasters. It explores examples of these different types of crisis and implications for crisis response.
