ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book addresses the issues and attempts to provide a source of relevant ideas and practical methods for leaders to operate more effectively in the challenging times. It reviews the established opinions on the nature of leadership to enable the reader to understand how leadership theory has developed during the twentieth century. The book explores how effective leadership adds value to an organization - what it is that leaders do which really makes a difference and what they will need to do differently in the future. It also addresses the practical aspect, how to create a vision, and considers foresight. The book also explores leadership and the individual by considering how the leader needs to cater for the individual in the team and also what an individual requires to do in order to become a competent leader.
