ABSTRACT

One of the most important contributions to understanding what the future of work will be like comes from feminist perspectives. In order to gain a full appreciation of the issues they have raised the likely position of women in the future of work must be described and what the future of work looks like from a feminist perspective should be understood. The basis of all feminist discourses is to expose the fact that women suffer from various manifestations of gender inequality because men seek to reserve for themselves a leading role in those activities which attract the highest levels of economic power and social prestige. Through its engagement with the State, first-wave feminism also made important political gains including access to political citizenship through the right to vote, access to higher education and the professions, and legally sanctioned rights to property and divorce.
