ABSTRACT
This chapter addresses a number of rhetorical features of L2 academic writing, with a focus on those that require attention in teaching. In academic writing, cohesion represents an essential characteristic of text and discourse, and constructing cohesive texts requires focused instruction. The uses and functions of parallel structure, sentence transitions, rhetorical questions, and examples in academic writing are also discussed.
