ABSTRACT

This chapter explains how to expose and process a chrysotype print. It discusses how exposure time, contrast and print-out are affected by the ratio of ligand to gold and the level of humidity in the paper prior to and after exposure. Using the standard ligand to gold ratio, exposure times with a UV exposure box can be between 1 and 3 minutes depending on the negative density and the amount of moisture in the paper. With sunlight, exposure times can be as short as 30 seconds and as long as 15 minutes, particularly when exposing the print in the open shade. To prepare for processing prints, gather the following equipment and materials: Protective glasses and gloves, Timer, Digital or glass thermometer and etc. Clearing agents are Tetrasodium and Tetrasodium EDTA. EDTA Dry prints by placing face-up on a sheet of Perspex that is leaning against a wall or in a large bucket or tub.
