ABSTRACT

Some of you may be reading this book and feeling like this approach won’t work because “my child just won’t talk to me about certain things.” How can you connect emotionally with a child who isn’t even giving you fodder to translate? Thankfully, we can use the same framework with silence and we’ve found it to be more likely to open up those lines of communication than using more forceful language such as “That’s not nice – I’m talking to you,” or, on the other end of the spectrum, – leaving the ball entirely in their court, since it may take forever for them to volley back.
