ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book offers a synthesis of existing theories of remittances and a clearer narrative of remittances. It also focuses on delving deeper into the norms, values, and traditions which make migration possible. The book then examines the motivations to send and receive money. It deals with the ongoing technological changes and how they impact the sending and receiving of remittances. The book provides a quantitative understanding of money transfers and focuses on inflows of money for Mexico and India while being cognizant of outflows from the US It then explores how remittances can play a critical role in public policy, attempt to deduce trends, and further the conversation of what changes need to take place. The book also deals with the remittances from the Gulf nations to India.
