ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the findings in relation to the data on costs and use of social work time. The primary measure of social work resource for this study is total case costs defined as the cost of social work time, supervision time, training time, any other time, the supervisor’s time, parking subsidy and any other expenses as identified by the social workers. The regression analyses were aimed at identification of cost drivers for utilisation of social work resources by this sample of patients in this particular hospital. Two sets of analyses were conducted with dependent variables of total case cost and total social work time cost. The regression analysis using total case costs as the dependent variable resulted in none of the variables being retained in the equation. When total social work time costs was used as the dependent variable only the variable problems at work or school was shown as significant.
