ABSTRACT

This chapter examines how the war impacted Argentina and Spain in 1915 and 1916. It is focused on the analysis of three elements. The first one is the propaganda of the belligerent countries and its transnational development through several reviews – such as Germania and América-Latina – journals, and newspapers. The second element examines the cultural and social mobilization in both countries through the cases of the Spanish and Argentine volunteers in the Foreign Legion and how they were projected by the British and French propaganda in Spain and Latin America. The third element studies the influence of the war in politics, economics, culture, and everyday life in Spain and Argentina and highlights that the impact developed in a transnational sense that did not eliminate the local circumstances of its societies.
