ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on Fundacio Angel Planells’ surrealist production, it is important to note that he produced realist works throughout his career, even between 1920 and 1939, when he mainly devoted himself to works that we could classify as surrealist. It discusses the effects of war and dictatorship in Planells’ surrealist painting, drawing, and poetry. The book draws Planells’ use of astronomy, especially the moon, in his surrealist poetry, short fiction, painting, and drawing. It also focuses on the contribution of Planells to two major exhibitions: the Logicofobista exhibition and the International Surrealist Exhibition. The book considers the economic and social obstacles that Planells had to face as a working-class artist and investigates the monetary issue from another point of view.
