Determining the Success of the Instructional Design Product and Process

Although learner evaluation is extremely important in instructional design, there are other types of evaluation that should occur as well. Evaluation—formative and summative—that concentrates on the instructional design process and the instruction developed based on the process are important. This chapter’s focus is on defining formative and summative evaluations, describing specific approaches of instructional design experts, and how formative and summative evaluations can be designed and implemented.
