ABSTRACT

Task analysis is a critical component in the instructional design process because it provides important information about the content and/or tasks that will form the basis for the instruction being developed. According to many instructional design experts task analysis is often considered to be the most important part of the instructional design process. This chapter describes various methods for gathering information about the content and/or activities that need to be included in the instruction. Various task analysis approaches taken by instructional design experts will be introduced and explained. This chapter also suggests how an instructional designer can evaluate the effectiveness of a task analysis.
