ABSTRACT

Swapping the location of a general pediatric practice from a Medical Office Building on a Medical Campus to a neighborhood Community Clinic that housed an Internal Medicine clinic may improve patient satisfaction in both clinics. Though patients are willing to travel distances for care, outpatient care is relatively local so where a clinic is located tends to identify the catchment area of the patients the clinic serves. The location of a clinic matters to patients. Depending on which patient segments a clinic serves or targets, location can be advantageous or even seen as a differentiator by patients. In a more crowded competitive market, clinics may try to differentiate themselves in order to retain and attract patients, while in some other regions, there might be no other competitor for 100 miles and a clinic does little to set itself apart or even modernize.
