ABSTRACT
Chapter 1 (this chapter) examines some key literature on nuclear power and safety politics. The chapter discusses the problems and questions that the book seeks to explain and answer. A set of key questions is established. The problem is to detail the outcomes of nuclear policy, especially safety policy, to examine the role of safety issues in restricting nuclear development, and to explain how such outcomes occur. The method is discussed and then there is a description of the chapters in the book. The issue of safety is discussed and earlier works which have covered this issue are also discussed and evaluated.
