ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines the different types of publishers and how to choose the publishing options most likely to meet your needs. We consider the ways in which book and journal publishers work, and look at the differences and similarities that exist between them even when they're parts of the same organisation. We review some factors to consider when choosing a publisher for your book or journal article.

Practical advice covers how to manage submissions, how to work with book and journal publishers, and how to negotiate with book publishers. Our exemplars illustrate how some of this can work in practice. The exercises for this chapter are designed to help you move forward with your plans for journal and/or book publishing.
