ABSTRACT

The professional sector generally refers to modern medicine. In Japan and the UK, this is treatment received at a regular clinic or hospital. Atopic dermatitis treatment based on modern medicine in Japan has come to be referred to as standard treatment, a term uncommon in the UK, where treatment is generally referred to simply as modern medicine. Standard treatment for atopic dermatitis refers to scientifically grounded treatment based on the guidelines set by the Japanese Dermatological Association. The aim of standard treatment is to achieve the following conditions for patients: The goal of treatment is to keep the condition symptomless. Standard treatment, on the other hand, aims to avoid such exacerbations and to preserve a state as close to symptomless as possible, and drug therapy centred around steroids is at the core of this treatment. This chapter examines the reasons behind the emergence of steroid withdrawal treatment in opposition to standard treatment.
