ABSTRACT

True to the critically reflective nature of participatory action learning and action research, in this chapter I conclude the book with a reflection on my learning through researching and writing this book. Revisiting the reflections and experiences of my postgraduate students and colleagues has reaffirmed my belief in the effectiveness of PALAR as a paradigm, a methodology, a theory of learning and a means of facilitation, towards sustainable and holistic learning and development. I open the chapter with a recap of my main argument for PALAR as a transformative, collaborative and democratic approach to educational research. I then return to the main purpose of the book to reflect on how I have pursued and achieved these aims. On this basis, I overview the practice and process of PALAR and how it can be implemented as a partnership between university and community, with a specific focus on the aims and roles of each party. I again draw from real-life experiences to support my conclusions about the theory, practice and process of PALAR.
