ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses where the real power lies within an enterprise, something which may not be fully reflected in an official organisational chart. It presents operations including a breakdown of different elements in the value chain and supporting the infrastructure of an enterprise. Most large-scale organisations use an organisational chart to represent their structure. This chart serves as a model of the authority and division structure of the organisation. A complex, multi-layered organisational chart implies a great distance between the uppermost layers and the bottom layers. Some of the most common types of organisational structure are functional structure, product structure, hybrid structure, project structure, process structure, and matrix structure. One important aspect of the financials is the different financial models for project funding applied by the organisation. When examining the financials of an enterprise, start with the income statement to see whether the business was delivering a profit and whether this was due to regular operations.
