In practical terms, a strategic planning report should present a clear case for action, which will involve summarising key information relating to the status and aspects that are driving change. Sometimes with market disruption but if a previous strategic planning exercise had anticipated such events, the transition may have been made smoother. There are many different aspects to the Arthur Andersen story that illustrate the realities of the modern business world and the inevitable negative consequences of pursuing a strategy that conflicts with established values. Values are in many ways a complex phenomenon although there is also a certain tendency to unnecessarily complicate the definition of their conceptual meaning in strategic planning. Strategic thinking is typically complex and operates on a number of different levels. Timing, location, and positioning are important aspects of strategy that have been proven to be key elements in success, particularly in the case of newer enterprises.
