ABSTRACT

Team dynamics and team communications can greatly affect individuals and impact whether they are motivated or discouraged to participate and perform fully. Participation in a team may encourage you to perform much better than you would if on your own; or, in another set of circumstances, you may become more complacent, less motivated, and reliant on the work of others. So, what is the link between personal ambition and team performance? How are they optimised? Is it better to work alone or as part of a team? What is a successful team in terms of interpersonal relations? In this final chapter, we deal with these questions, as well as look at the environment of a team and its influence on teamwork. At the end of the chapter we look at effective communication in teams to revisit material that has already been discussed in the book and place it in an overall context. As we have stated throughout, the ultimate goal is to have open, honest, efficient, and mutually supportive communications within teams to bring out the best in teamwork.
