ABSTRACT

Modern Japan ruled over the following colonies. Japanese rule over these colonies was very short-lived relative to that of the West over its colonies. The Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship and Alliance was signed on August 14, 1945, the day before Japan accepted the Potsdam Declaration. The People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, and the Sino-Soviet Treaty of Friendship, Alliance, and Mutual Assistance was signed in 1950. With the Japanese defeat in 1945, the Chinese military moved into and recovered Taiwan. The Americans counterattacked, and the war entered a stalemate. An armistice was signed in 1953. The war had greatly devastated Korea's land. In response, America successfully convinced the United Nations (UN) Security Council to adopt a resolution recognizing North Korea as an aggressor and forming a UN military force to oppose it. There are many similarities and differences between South Korea and Taiwan.
