ABSTRACT
This chapter focuses on the familial influences on Generation Z and begins with an overview of parenting trends through time to better understand the parenting context of the parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents of Generation Z. The chapter discusses family structures prominent today and explores both the dynamics of the diversity of families along with the shifting social and gender norms present in many families. The chapter continues with an overview of the parents of Generation Z – their influence on their children’s digital footprints, work-life balance, shifting from helicopter parents to co-pilots, and passing down shared characteristics. Finally, insight is provided on Generation Z’s perspective of family in regard to engaging in marriage and parenting.
