ABSTRACT

A great deal can be accomplished by trying to establish and carry out research within the walls of a school, but before long a person's may wish to focus their attention more widely. External researchers—teachers in other schools, universities or colleges and professionals in other relevant organisations—can be essential contacts, with a range of skills and expertise that no single school can possess by itself. Partnerships with such peers can be mutually beneficial. Just as teacher-researchers within a school can share ideas and collaborate on areas where they have complementary skills, extending this beyond the school further increases the pool of people with whom a person can make links and engage in mutually beneficial sharing of research expertise. A partnership could also bring with it the opportunity to broaden and extend a current or recent research project. The Higher Education sector is another excellent option for forming a research partnership.
