ABSTRACT
This chapter reviews some books on legal translation and bilingual law drafting and legal dictionaries and glossaries in Hong Kong. There are two types of books dealing with these topics. The first type consists of research books that probe into the academic and practical issues of legal translation and bilingual law drafting. The second type consists of reference books such as bilingual legislation, translated judgments and bilingual legal dictionaries/glossaries. Two research areas hold promise for supporting and strengthening the field of legal translation and bilingual law drafting in Hong Kong. The first area focuses on enhancing the linguistic quality of Hong Kong’s bilingual legislation and judgments. The second area focuses on legal terminology, that is, the explanation of legal terminology and the compilation of a combined legal glossary for Hong Kong, the Mainland and Taiwan. Efforts have also been made to revise the English legislation drafting and Chinese translation of judgments.
