ABSTRACT

All primary care workers spend considerable amounts of time working out a summary of their patient's progress during both the inpatient and follow-up period. A review of all the professional reports and lab findings and further explanation of the treatment is written by the consulting psychiatrist or registrar. The staff who would like to learn a particular technique can organise a group instruction period. This is slotted into the weekly inservice instruction time or otherwise an individual can obtain individual instruction from the staff member they think is best able to teach a particular skill. Care plans should be brief, up-to-date, legible and understandable. One should remember that an on-call worker should be able to follow them with as little instruction as possible. The treatment plan for the whole admission, with a careful determination of who is doing what with whom and how often, is put together at the admission conference.
