ABSTRACT

Person responsible for ensuring that the lighting equipment is hung, focused, and run according to written and verbal instructions from the lighting designer; overseer of the lighting crew. The lighting section is usually a composite side-view drawing that shows the position of the lighting equipment in relation to the set and the physical structure of the theatre. Drafting the original light plot, whether by hand or with a computer, is a labor-intensive effort. But the computer saves a tremendous amount of time when it comes to producing the seemingly endless lists—hookup sheet/instrument schedule, cut list, rental schedule, and so forth—that make up the paperwork associated with the design. The symbol for each instrument drawn on a light plot may have a great deal of information associated with it: the area of focus or purpose, color, instrument number, lamp wattage, circuit, channel, dimmer, and so forth.
