ABSTRACT

The subatomic particles possess specific electrical properties. The proton has a positive charge, the neutron a neutral charge, and the electron a negative charge. If two bodies of opposite charge are created, an electrical current could be generated if a conductor, such as a copper wire, were connected between them. There are two types of electrical current direct current and alternating current. In a typical application of a combination circuit in stage lighting, a control device is used in series with the lamp load, and the lamps. The symbol represents a battery, and the symbol represents resistance, or load, within the circuit. A lighting instrument’s electrical cable containing the hot, neutral, and ground wires used to connect the fixture to, typically, a stage circuit. The purpose of the grounding circuit is to provide a low-resistance path for the electricity to follow in case of a short circuit or accidental connection between the device’s hot wire and its housing.
