ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the types of cables and connectors that constitute flexible distribution system, as well as several methods of circuiting, or connecting, the lighting instruments to the dimmers. Almost all electrical wires or cables are made up of two basic components: a conductor and an insulator. There are two basic types of electrical conductors such as solid wire and stranded-wire cable. A multicable consists of a number of “two-conductor with ground” circuits enclosed in a single cable. Typically configured into six circuits, multicables are connected on both ends to a Socapex connector. Connecting strips are hung in a variety of positions around the stage and auditorium—counterweighted battens over the stage, various front-of-house positions such as ante-proscenium cuts or slots, beamports, coves, boxes. Floor pockets are recessed into the stage floor while wall pockets can either be recessed into, or mounted on the surface of, the wall.
