ABSTRACT

Human sight comprises a complex series of events. In light, the primary colors are closely related to the color sensitivity of the red, blue, and green cones in the eye. The primary colors in pigment are red, blue, and yellow. The color wheel for light shows that the complementary hue for red is cyan. In the color wheel for pigment, the complementary hue for red is green. Lighting designers normally follow some general color guidelines when selecting their palettes. Most people feel a sense of warmth with colors in the red-orange-yellow color range and a sense of coolness with colors in the blue-green-lavender range. Lighting designers frequently make use of the psychological color keys to indicate source light and shadow. Filters used to adjust the color of light to match the color of a specific film emulsion. Silks are also available in the primary colors and amber for use in cyc lighting.
