ABSTRACT
In these past chapters, we have been interested in the “what” and “how” of theater. Now it is time to address its “why.” It is all very well and good to surmise that theater is a machine of hyper-intentionality and to suggest that how it goes about its secret work is through the art of ek-stasis (making things stand out) but the larger question still remains: why? To what end?
