ABSTRACT
We have seen, throughout this chapter, theater’s complicated history of engaging our hearts and minds. We could argue that the entire history of theater is basically the struggle over which organ to give pride of place. Let us quickly review the high points of this history before turning toward our final thoughts on what all this can tell us about the theater of past and our theater of the present:
