ABSTRACT

A large-scale quantitative survey of all managers and executives in banks operating in China would have been one technique. Constructivist grounded theory is a revision of 'classic', or objectivist, grounded theory as developed by Glaser and Strauss. It is a position which fully recognizes that much of the knowledge produced in the social sciences emerges through processes of social construction and interpretation. An interpretive branch of the social sciences, constructivist grounded theory aims to build a 'thick description' which may include a variety of sources such as researchers' fieldnotes, participant interviews and relevant documents, including visual material. This chapter introduces reflexive essay on our research strategy. It describes our sampling and procedures for the in-depth interviews. The chapter discusses our document and media-event data analysis. It provides details on our informants and discusses the ethical implications of the project. The chapter provides our interview schedule as it developed throughout the research process.
