ABSTRACT

Sexuality, especially couple sexuality, is complex. Contrary to media ads which overpromise that a medication (Viagra or testosterone) will solve all sexual problems, a comprehensive couple psychobiosocial approach to understanding, assessing, and treating sexual problems is crucial. Addressing psychological, bio-medical, and social/relational factors promotes change. Rather than a simplistic approach which medicalizes sexuality, demonizes the partner, or blames the relationship, the psychobiosocial approach empowers the couple to understand the range of sexual causes, roles, meanings, and outcomes. This model promotes desire/pleasure/eroticism/satisfaction for the woman, man, and couple.
