ABSTRACT

The traditional double standard continues to dominate sexual discourse in the United States and throughout the world. The assumption is that men and women are very different, especially sexually. This chapter explores the new model of female—male sexual equity. The equity model is based on the scientifically validated concept that in adult relationships there are more similarities than differences between women and men. The female—male equity model is healthy for women, men, couples, and the culture. The equity model emphasizes sharing intimacy, pleasuring, and eroticism. Instead of the traditional gender split, both partners value intimacy and eroticism. Maintaining an equitable, including sexuality, relationship is a challenge, but a very worthwhile one.
