ABSTRACT

Richard Rorty thinks, that there is no such thing as an objective difference between cruelty and kindness, no such things as human nature and human solidarity, no such thing as objective reason and no such thing as truth. Schools of philosophy whose slogans take the form ‘there isn’t any such thing as such-and-such’ are nothing new. People believe that socialisation ‘goes all the way down’ because they want to; it’s a political dogma. The liberal ironist, an idealised figure for whom he designs a Utopia, feels that cruelty is the worst thing there is; ironist also believes that there is ‘no objective better or worse’.
