ABSTRACT
The extended field of view across the x and y axes and the expansion of perspective along the z-axis produced by wide-angle lenses is ideal to showcase the vastness of a large interior or exterior space, especially landscapes. These lenses can make a dramatic statement about the scale of a location, and are therefore often used for establishing shots, sometimes coupled with a camera move that gradually reveals the full scope of a wide open space. Smaller apertures and hyperfocal distance focusing to produce the deepest depth of field possible are commonly used to maximize the amount of detail captured and to further emphasize the sense of an unending space extending before the audience. The inclusion of a crane up move not only allows for a more dramatic reveal of the location, but underlines its scale by letting the audience see more graves than would have been seen if the shot had remained at ground level, from Tuco’s perspective.
