ABSTRACT

The evaluation schedule aimed to record the views of both consumers and providers of adult education together with data describing the estate and its services. It might be argued that it would have been a more logical strategy for the team to have obtained such information before starting any action. Action may be modified as a result of careful observation and thought concerning its direction and effects. The result of continuous monitoring by the participants in action can lead to a modification of attitudes. The area of ’opinion’ questions provided the usual problems, essentially related to doubts about accuracy of response and about the availability of information. The questionnaire was designed to be self-administered and then posted back to the New Communities Project team. It contained six sections each introduced by a short explanatory statement. The chief factors affecting attendance were thought to be domestic difficulties, baby-sitting problems, transport difficulties and problems concerned with the subject or activity.
