ABSTRACT

This study is an investigation into an aspect of teenage folklore. It is not a study of teenage folklore in its entirety. For example, it is not concerned with song, music, rhymes, dance, visual communication, jokes, superstition, blasons populaires, etc., but purely with the oral narratives which pass between teenagers, sometimes in conversation, sometimes in more formal situations at sleep-over parties or around camp-fires, but always as a form of social currency.
