ABSTRACT

Some years ago now, when I first began working in secondary schools as a storyteller, a colleague told me that he had noticed that one particular story seemed to be enjoying a heightened wave of popularity at that time amongst teenagers. The story in question concerned a young boy who was sent on an errand by his mother to buy some liver from the butcher. However, the lad instead spent the money on sweets and, realising the gravity of his situation, dug up the corpse of his granny, removed the liver, and took it home to his mother. That evening the ghost of his granny returned to exact revenge on the boy and the story ended with a ‘jump’.
