ABSTRACT

Shortly after go-live, one should expect to enter a period of relative stability using the new EHR system. However, numerous changes will continue to be needed in the form of break-fix for issues that are identified, as well as optimizations and enhancements to improve workflows and EHR functionality. Many of the fixes, optimizations, and enhancements that are made to one’s EHR will be based on requests from physicians and providers, operations or clinical staff in a specific discipline, business office and financial leadership, or other groups or individuals. Leaders and operational staff need to continue providing feedback and should remain engaged to ensure improvement of the EHR system over time. Encouraging staff to “seek out” or “pull” information using an intranet page, knowledgebase, or other information repository — instead of “pushing” the information to them via email — can require a culture change for some organizations.
