ABSTRACT

In the third chapter, the author defines the era after the reform and opening up as one of controversy and progress. The earliest value disputes in this era began with the letter from Pan Xiao and the Shekou incident, which triggered the “left” and “right” controversies in the following decades. In this series of disputes, the younger generation became the trendsetter of the times, the earliest “marginal people”, and the generation whose values will be reshaped.
