ABSTRACT

It is the considered judgment of many of my dearest friends whose opinions I hold in the greatest respect, even when they fail to command my approbation, that of the many mad actions that may be laid to my charge the maddest of all was my resolve to start the Radical. Be that as it may, I did start that weekly journal. Mr. Hyndman in his “Record of an Adventurous Life” makes a sorry attempt to tell the story of its advent, but with this exception, so far as I know, the authentic history of this journalistic enterprise is now about to be written for the first time.
