ABSTRACT
This chapter introduces a small collection of tricks of the trade exhibited by a number of expert designers. They include:
Using analogy as a way of generating form.
Using words rather than images to increase ambiguity of ideas, especially early in the process.
The use of narrative as a way of progressing the design process in a collectively coherent manner.
Imposing discipline in order to create structure and pattern in form, layout or appearance.
Pre-conceptual thinking to progress design ideas without them becoming too concrete.
